Barbara Feldman is a versatile artist whose interest in jewellery making has evolved over the years into a major business which helps to finance other interests such as travel and children's book illustration. Polymer clay, the material she uses for her jewellery, is also the medium she has chosen for the illustrations in the new children's alphabet book which she hopes to have published this fall. In her first two books for children, Going, Going (1989) and Stephen's Frog (1991) Feldman used a technique known as fabric appliqué. By sewing together a rich tapestry of materials collected on her travels around the world, Feldman created pictures which told her stories. Stephen's Frog is a wordless picture book in which children are encouraged to develop their own stories as they explore the details in the illustrations. Feldman's artwork has also appeared in Canadian and American magazines, on record album covers, and hangs in private and public collections.
