In some ways Québécois fantastic fiction is similar to English-Canadian science fiction and fantasy in both its themes and techniques. But in many other ways, Québécois science fiction has developed distinctive features and approaches.
While some Québécois fantasy is based on figures out of folk-legend and popular myth, much more is based on Christian and specifically Catholic roots. Figures representing Christ and Satan appear frequently, and many works have a fundamentally moral purpose--or turn the notion on its head and treat the matter satirically.
