Fall 2015

December, 2015

There are two favourite conversation openings in Saskatchewan: the Roughriders and the weather. Our 'Riders didn't fare so well this fall, but the weather? Wow! Thank you El Niño.

Fall at Ag-West Bio was a whirlwind. We held our 11th annual meeting and Taste of Innovation reception, a showcase of local food ingredient companies. The event featured an inspiring talk by Neal Carter, president of Okanagan Specialty Fruits, and an opportunity to sample OSF's nonbrowning Arctic® apples.

This was followed by the Manning Innovation Awards Dinner, co-hosted by Ag-West Bio. It was the first time this prestigious event was held in Saskatchewan, and it was a great success, with more than 450 people in attendance. Wilf Keller is the Saskatchewan Chapter Chair for the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation.

Saskatchewan's planning committee worked hard again this year to produce a good mix of outreach and industry events for National Biotechnology Week. A summary can be found below.

Our President and CEO, Wilf Keller recently returned from a trip to Japan, where he continues to develop a positive working relationship with companies interested in Saskatchewan's value-added processing industry. And last week we co-hosted the Canola Industry Meeting and Canola Innovation Day, with close to 250 attendees.

We look forward to a productive winter season, and continuing to work with Saskatchewan's bioscience community to grow the bioeconomy!
