The recent profile on my uncle Dr. Norman Merkeley brought a flush to my soul. In my 46 years of life he stands out uniquely as a man of substance whom Emerson himself would have approved. Norm is one of my heroes who reminds me that what we give to others is far more important than that which we give to ourselves. He has lived a simple life and been a good steward of the world around him. Indeed the twinkle in his eye captures the soul of a man who represents the best of his generation and for which we should all be thankful for his/their service. God bless you uncle Norm!
