Error in dosages for Colace docusate sodium in 1996 CPS

I wish to inform readers of an error in the dosage section of the
monograph for Colace docusate sodium published in the 1996
edition of the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties on
page 288 of the English edition and page 331 of the French
edition. The dosage instructions for Colace drops and Colace
syrup were inadvertently interchanged so that the instructions
given for the drops apply to the syrup and vice versa.
The correct dosage instructions should read as follows:
Dosage: Capsules: Children 6 to 12 years: 1 capsule/day. Adults
and older children: 1 or 2 capsules/day.
Drops: Infants and children under 3: As prescribed by physician.
Children 3 to 6 years: 2 mL 1 to 3 times daily with 120 mL of
milk or fruit juice or in infant's formula (to mask the bitter
taste), until bowel movements are normal.
Syrup: Infants and children under 3: As prescribed by physician.
Children 3 to 6 years: 5 to 15 mL/day. Children 6 to 12 years: 10
mL, 1 to 3 times daily. Adults and older children: 15 to 45
mL/day.
The effect of docusate sodium on the stool may not be apparent
for 1 to 3 days after the first oral dose.
Posologie: Capsules: Enfants de 6 à 12 ans: 1 capsule/jour.
Adultes et enfants plus âgés: 1 ou 2 capsules/jour.
Gouttes: Nourrissons et enfants de moins de 3 ans: tel qu'indiqué
par le médecin. Enfants de 3 à 6 ans: 2 mL, 1 à 3 fois/jour avec
120 mL de lait ou de jus de fruits ou dans la formule pour
nourrisons (afin de masquer le goût amer), et ce jusqu'au retour
à la normale de la motilité intestinale.
Sirop: Nourrissons et enfants de moins de 3 ans: tel qu'indiqué
par le médecin. Enfants de 3 à 6 ans: 5 à 15 mL/jour. Enfants de
6 à 12 ans: 10 mL, 1 à 3 fois/jour. Adultes et enfants plus
âgées: 15 à 45 mL/jour.
L'effet du docusate sodique sur les fèces ne peut être apparent
que 1 à 3 jour suivant la première dose orale.
