eLetters: What a waste of time

After reading this article I am left with two very disturbing thoughts - first I'm wondering how in a world full of real medical problems to research a group of doctors can waste time - and no doubt public money - researching the pyschiatric problems of characters in a fictional childrens book. If ever there were a case of reading too deep into something this is it. I am left to wonder whether the authors have obsessive or anxiety disorders themselves in the fact that they have sought to find these pyschiatric problems. I must also question why a reputable journal would publish such an article. As a relatively normal citizen I would like to say enough is enough! Stop overanlyzing things - I'm sure that Milne would agree that there is not always a deeper meaning behind the actions and attitudes of characters in fiction. These are wholesome, moral teaching stories and many of the readers of them do not even come close to comprehending the disorders that you name. Nothing has, or will ever be accomplished by analysizing these characters and I am sad to see that you have nothing better to do with you time than devote it to this.
