Died Jan. 16, 2001, aged 71; survived by his wife, Rena, and 2 children. His obituary stated: "While many people throughout Sarnia knew him as a radiologist, many more knew him as a gentle, generous and warm-hearted man who was utterly devoted to his family, loved to travel, fish, garden and read. He was also blessed with a wonderful dry wit that never failed to leave everyone smiling."

Freedman, Ralph E., North York, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1955; diagnostic radiology; DABR, FRCPC; former staff, radiology, Scarborough General Hospital; radiology coordinator, Ontario Breast Screening Program, Toronto-Bayview Regional Cancer Centre. Died of cancer Jan. 4, 2001, aged 68; survived by his wife, Betty, and 4 children.

Neville, John W., Victoria; University of Manitoba, 1944; family practice; RCAMC, WW II; former staff, Ladysmith General, Victoria General and Royal Jubilee hospitals. Died Mar. 16, 2001, aged 81; survived by his wife, Georgina, 3 daughters and 2 stepdaughters. He was made an honorary band member because of his services to the Chemainus First Nations. Colleague Kenneth Thornton recalls: "He was a pianist and classical music lover, an avid reader, a skilled cabinet maker, a student of French language and literature, and a traveller. He was a Renaissance Man."

Otton, Paul E., Mont Tremblant, Que.; University of Western Ontario, 1954; anesthesia; DABA, FRCPC; former anesthetist-in-chief, staff, and teacher , Royal Victoria Hospital; consultant, Lachine General Hospital and Centre Hospital Lafleche-Grand'Mere; honorary consultant, St. Mary's Hospital Centre; associate professor, McGill University. Died Feb. 9, 2001, aged 71; survived by his wife, Irene, and 4 children. London, Ont., urologist John Wyatt remembered his colleague this way: "In his later years he used his skills and teaching ability by working with the Canadian Red Cross in Afghanistan and Ethiopia. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved skiing and was happiest at home in Mont Tremblant, where he could bike in the summer and ski in the winter."

Pearsall, Howard E., Sudbury, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1944; otolaryngology; FACS, FRCSC; former staff, Sudbury General Hospital; audiology consultant, Iron Ore Company of Canada and Northern Acoustics. Died Jan. 11, 2001, aged 79; survived by his wife, Lois, and children Dr. Don, Nancy, Lee, Laura, Kathy and Joanne.

Rosenberg, Horace D., Ottawa; University of Edinburgh (Scotland), 1937; former GP, Burgeo, Nfld., and St. John's; medical adviser, Canadian Pension Commission. Died Feb. 14, 2001, aged 86; survived by his wife, Anna, and daughters Dr. Jeannie and Cathleen. His obituary stated: "He will be remembered for his deep love of nature, his kindness, his sparkling wit and his uncompromising ethical standards."
