Armstrong, John B., Ottawa; University of Toronto, 1943; FRCPC; RCAMC, WW II; former senior medical consultant, chronic disease epidemiology, Ontario Ministry of Health; executive director and chief medical adviser, Canadian Heart Foundation; assistant professor, physiology and medical research, University of Manitoba; associate professor, preventive medicine and biostatistics, University of Toronto; senior lecturer, pharmacology, University of Ottawa. Died Dec. 15, 2000, aged 82; survived by his wife, Dorothy, and 4 children.

Clarkson, M. Elizabeth, Lloydminster, Alta.; University of Ottawa, 1975; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, Lloydminster Hospital. Died Aug. 5, 2000, aged 50.

Cohen, William D., Westmount, Que.; McGill University, 1933; internal medicine; AACP, FRCPC; former honorary attending staff, Montreal General Hospital. Died Aug. 2, 2000, aged 93.

Dunsworth, Francis A., Halifax; Dalhousie University, 1943; psychiatry; DABPsy; former associate professor, Dalhousie University; past president, Medical Society of Nova Scotia and Canadian Psychiatric Association; director, Child Guidance Clinic, Dalhousie University; died Dec. 17, 2000, aged 80. Survived by his wife, Frances, and 9 children. His obituary stated: "Frank was in active practice for more than 50 years, retiring in October 2000 due to sudden ill health. He enjoyed the challenges of both duplicate and contract bridge and loved his time spent at South West Cove reading and sailing. The proud father of 10 children, Frank was never far from them or his grandchildren."

Holley, D. Alexander, Quesnel, BC; University of Alberta, 1951; general surgery; FACS, FRCSC; former chief of staff and surgery, G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital; president, BC Surgical Society. Died from stroke-related complications Oct. 5, 2000; survived by his wife, Judi, and 3 children. He started the first Intensive Care Unit in BC. Colleague Norman Hamilton commented: "After graduation he practised in the Northwest Territories, where he quickly learned to mush a dog team for house calls. He was a keen outdoorsman, hunter and cowboy, and his pranks were legendary, including a staged train robbery. Prior to his death he completed his memoirs Don't Shoot from the Saddle — Chronicles of a Frontier Surgeon."

Hurley, James D., Ottawa; National University of Ireland, 1944; diagnostic radiology; DABR, FFR(RCSI), FRCPC; former staff, Department of Radiology, Riverside Hospital. Died Aug. 20, 2000, aged 80.

Jasmin, Florent, Montréal (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1944; ancien membre invité du personnel de l'Hôpital Notre-Dame; professeur au département de médecine familiale de l'Université de Montréal. Décédé le 9 août 2000, à l'âge de 82 ans.

Lebel, Georges, L'Isles-Verte (Qué.); Université Laval, 1941; pédiatrie; ancien membre du personnel de l'Hôpital Hôtel-Dieu de Rivière-du-Loup. Décédé le 16 juin 2000, à l'âge de 86 ans.

Loguinoff, Germain B., Regina; Aurora University (China), 1944; CCFP, LMCC; army reserve; former associate staff, Regina General and Pasqua hospitals; life member, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. Died Sept. 7, 2000, aged 81; survived by his niece. He worked as a ship's doctor on a United Nations vessel based in Shanghai from 1946 to 1948. His obituary stated: "His principal leisure activity was painting and he was a very accomplished artist, having won 5 separate awards for his work. He was fluent in French, English, Russian, Ukrainian and Polish."

MacDonald, Martin P., Fonthill, Ont.; University of Ottawa, 1953; general surgery; FACS, DABS, FRCSC; former staff, Welland County General Hospital; consulting staff, Port Colborne General and Douglas Memorial hospitals. Died Sept. 1, 2000, aged 72.

Saibil, Maurice, Verdun, Que.; McGill University, 1932; internal medicine; CRCPC; former honorary attending physician, Jewish General Hospital. Died June 30, 2000, aged 95.

Stern, Lloyd G., Hampstead, Que.; McGill University, 1943; psychiatry; FRCPC; former assistant psychiatrist and registrar, Department of Psychiatry, Jewish General Hospital; examiner psychiatrist, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Quebec; lecturer, McGill University. Died Aug. 10, 2000, aged 82.

Tremblay, Louis J., Midland, Ont.; Queen's University, 1952; general pathology; FRCPC; former head, Department of Pathology, Huronia District and Penetanguishene General hospitals. Died Sept. 25, 2000, aged 73; survived by his wife, Mary.

Vallières, Guy, Cap-Rouge (Qué.); Université Laval, 1953; MCFP; ancien chef du service externe et membre agrégé du personnel de l'Hôpital du St-Sacrement. Décédé le 22 septembre 2000, à l'âge de 73 ans.

Vlahos, William D., Vancouver; Dalhousie University, 1978; endocrinology and metabolism; FRCPC; former codirector, Diabetes Centre and director, Lipid Clinic, St. Paul's Hospital; teaching staff, endocrinology, and clinical assistant professor, Department of Medicine, University of British Columbia. Died Sept. 17, 2000, aged 46.

Witt, Simon, Guelph, Ont.; University of London (England), 1939; general surgery; FRCS(Ed.), MRCS, LRCP, FRCSC; former staff, Guelph General and St. Joseph's hospitals. Died Sept. 26, 2000, aged 84; survived by his wife, Jean, and 5 children.
