New Professional Liability Protection requirements

At its September 19, 2013, meeting, the College’s Council approved a by-law that requires all members except those in the Non-Practising Class to hold Professional Liability Protection (PLP).

This by-law sets out the minimum PLP coverage that members must hold and comes into effect March 31, 2014.

The majority of nurses in Ontario may already meet the new PLP requirement through coverage provided by their employers, membership in associations that offer PLP as a benefit, or coverage they have purchased directly from a provider.

All members of the College are accountable for ensuring their current PLP coverage meets the minimum requirements set out in the by-laws.

Review the College’s questions and answers about PLP for more information about the new PLP requirements.
