Confirm a Nurse’s Status
Find a Nurse is the College’s online register. It enables anyone to search for nurses using first or last names, facility names or registration numbers. Every nurse registered in Ontario has a profile in Find a Nurse.
“Entitled to practise with no restrictions” means the nurse is a current member of the College and entitled to practise nursing in Ontario.
“Entitled to practise with restrictions” indicates the nurse is a current member, but there are terms, conditions or limitations on the nurse’s practice. These may be in place because of findings from a Discipline or Fitness to Practise Committee hearing, or because of a voluntary agreement between the College and the member. The nature of the restrictions is indicated in the nurse’s profile.
“Not entitled to practise” means the individual does not have the authority to practise nursing in Ontario. This may be because the member is in the College’s Non-Practising Class, or because the individual’s registration has been suspended or revoked for failing to pay a fee or provide information, or as a result of a disciplinary or fitness-to-practise hearing.
Contact the College’s Customer Service Centre if you are unable to identify a nurse in Find a Nurse or cannot access the online register
Questions or concerns about illegal practitioners or an individual’s nursing practice should be forwarded to the College’s Investigator-on-Call (416 928-0900 ext. 6988; toll-free in Ontario 1 800 387-5526) or investigations-intake@cnomail.org.
Annual Automated Verification of Renewal (AAVR)
Available to organizations year-round but most often accessed during membership renewal season, the College’s Annual Automated Verification of Renewal (AAVR) service offers organizations the opportunity to receive information about the registration status of all their nursing staff with just one request.
AAVR is a particularly useful tool for employers who employ 100 or more nurses, but it is available to all employers.
