Hancock Fabrics

When you are a busty lady it is not always easy to find summer tops that are sexy, flattering, and still allow you to wear a bra.

I wanted to design a versatile warm-weather top that I and my fellow full-figured friends could wear out on the town. This top is a wrap so it can be easily adjusted for size and fit and it's hot pink, which is always a plus!

Brooches are very fashionable this season too, so instead of a button closure, I chose to fasten the back of Mariposa with a butterfly broach.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations can be found here]

Seed Stitch (worked over an even number of sts):
Row 1 [RS]: [K1, p1] to end.
Row 2 [WS]: [P1, k1] to end.

- Decrease rows are always worked on the right side (RS)
- The intarsia technique is used in making the straps. You may choose to work the straps all in one color to avoid the need to work intarsia.

FINISHING

Using mattress stitch, sew backs to front.

Try your top on, using pins to mark placement of buttons and straps. (Get a friend to help you!) When looking at the back, the Right Back will wrap in front of the Back Left.

Sew button to inside of Right Back, corresponding to position of buttonhole on Left Back. Lay top flat with back side up. Button top closed. Sew overlapping top edges together. (The top will no longer actually open all the way -- the lower back opens to allow busty gals to get in and out of the top without stretching the middle Seed Stitch band out of shape.)

Sew button to Left Back, corresponding to position of buttonhole on Right back (or attach brooch). Sew on straps. Weave in all ends.
