Palaeontologia Electronica
Call for Articles

Questions? Please contact Whitey Hagadorn or David Polly, the Executive Editors.

Palaeontologia Electronica—the world’s first internationally-sponsored, peer-reviewed electronic paleontological journal—is seeking technical contributions in the form of manuscripts or thematic groups of papers (i.e., theme issues). Manuscripts from any branch of paleontology (e.g., micropaleontology, palynology, invertebrate paleontology, paleobotany, vertebrate paleontology) or related biological or paleontologically-related disciplines are welcome. Because Palaeontologia Electronica meets the provisions of Article 8.6 of the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature, descriptive taxonomic manuscripts are also welcomed. Manuscripts are evaluated in the same way as contributions to standard print-based paleontological journals. All technical papers are peer-reviewed by professional paleontologists and biologists (using advice from an international panel of associate editors) and published as html and pdf documents, accessible to all with Internet connections via the World Wide Web (WWW).

Unlike traditional print-based journals, Palaeontologia Electronica is highly graphical in both format and content. Authors are encouraged to make use of color in their figures and tables, and to include high-resolution digital images as illustrations. Moreover, Palaeontologia Electronica encourages manuscripts that employ animations, 2D and 3D modelling techniques, online access to databases, and online data analysis tools. There are no page limits and no page charges for articles published in Palaeontologia Electronica, though all articles are edited to optimize their information content. This free-access policy results from a unique combination of financial and technical support initiatives provided by our sponsoring societies, and from reduced overheads resulting from an all-digital publication process. Each volume of Palaeontologia Electronica is accessible from several donated WWW sites, and also permanently archived at the National Library of Canada site. In addition, the journal is available on CD-ROM at ten archival libraries, through our sponsoring societies (http://palaeo-electronica.org/sponsor.htm), and directly from Coquina Press. Palaeontologia Electronica publishes one volume with two issues each calendar year, with occasional special issues published as supplements to the volume.

Manuscripts should be submitted to the executive editors, preferably in electronic format. Manuscripts can be submitted as PDF files or as electronic word-processor documents (e.g., MS-Word or WordPerfect for Macintosh or Windows), with figures submitted in GIF, TIFF, JPEG, or EPS graphics formats. Tables may be submitted as tab-delimited text files, or as MS-Excel worksheets (both Macintosh and Windows versions accepted). Manuscript files may be sent on CD-ROM, Zip disk, or 3.5" floppy disk to the executive editor's surface mail addresses, as e-mail attachments (by prior arrangement with the editor), or deposited in one of our ftp sites (also by prior arrangement with the editor). If you cannot match these formats please contact the editor for alternatives. Hard-copy manuscripts may also be submitted, but may require additional time to process. Additional information about submitting manuscripts to Palaeontologia Electronica is available from http://palaeo-electronica.org/contrib.htm
