- prepared to and able to commit the necessary time required to find a solution
- able to separate personalities from the problems
- imaginative in crafting solutions and encourages creative problem solving
- collaborative and committed to a mutually acceptable outcome
- able to identify, check out and overcome assumptions
- able to seek resolution of the “bigger picture”
- a good listener and able to see past the other’s position to understand what is important to them (that is, their interests)
