When you retire, you and your dependants may be entitled to health and dental group insurance benefits.

Public Service Health Care Plan coverage is available to eligible retired members and their eligible dependants including survivors who are receiving an ongoing pension. The coverage and services offered to retired members residing in Canada are the same as the benefits for active members. If you are planning to reside outside of Canada, please contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre.

Retired members are required to pay contributions for their health coverage. Contributions will vary depending on whether you have single or family coverage, your level of hospital coverage and residency.

At retirement, you can continue your existing coverage. You may also apply for coverage or change your level of coverage at any time. Waiting periods may apply depending on when you make your request. For more information, contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre.

Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan coverage is also available to eligible retired members and their eligible dependants including survivors who are receiving an ongoing pension. The coverage and services offered are similar to those offered to active members.

Retired members are required to pay contributions for their dental coverage and contribution rates vary depending on the number of dependants. As a member of the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan, you and your eligible family members can coordinate dental benefits if they are a member of another dental plan. However, two members of the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan cannot coordinate benefits because one cannot be covered as both a member and an eligible dependant. For more information, contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre.

You can enrol in the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan at any time. However, if you do not apply within 60 days of retirement or of becoming a survivor, a waiting period will apply.

It is important to note that if you become a member of the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan, you must remain a member for at least 3 complete calendar years before cancelling your coverage. The decision to cancel your coverage is irrevocable and you will not be permitted to rejoin the Plan at a later date.

For information on enrollment, eligibility and contributions contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre.

For inquiries on benefits and claims, contact the insurance provider.
