What's NewJune 2008Once again two Canadian graduate students have won awards from the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) in the Innovative ETD category. Theses Canada congratulates Michael Klassen from the University of Manitoba and Richard Schippling from the University of Waterloo for their outstanding achievements in this category. The awards were presented at ETD 2008: the 11th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations, which was held in Aberdeen, Scotland from June 4 to 7. Mr. Klassen's thesis is entitled Voice Map Trekking. It can be accessed at http://mspace.lib.umanitoba.ca/dspace/handle/1993/3010. Mr. Schippling's thesis is entitled Public Housing Redevelopment: Residents' Experiences with Relocation from Phase 1 of Toronto's Regent Park Revitalization. It can be accessed at http://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/handle/10012/3028. June 2008Theses Canada would like to congratulate the two winners of the 2008 CAGS-UMI Distinguished Dissertation Awards. Dr. Jason W. T. Hessels won an award in the category of Engineering, Medical Sciences and Natural Sciences for his dissertation entitled Discovery and Study of Exotic Radio Pulsars, which he did at McGill University. Dr. Tracey Lindberg won an award in the category of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She completed her dissertation, entitled Critical Indigenous Legal Theory, at the University of Ottawa. Both dissertations are available for interlibrary loan from Library and Archives Canada in microfiche format. The winners will receive their awards at the CAGS annual conference in Edmonton in October. April 2008Theses Canada is happy to announce that on April 1, 2008 Library and Archives Canada (LAC) signed a new agreement with ProQuest. The three year contract, which is in effect from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011, provides substantively the same services as the prior agreement. The publishing fee will increase to $56.00 per thesis on April 1, 2008, to $57.00 on April 1, 2009 and to $58.00 on April 1, 2010. Library and Archives Canada will continue to provide a subsidy of $16.00 per thesis for the duration of the contract. The university fee will increase from $39.00 to $40.00 on April 1, 2008, from $40.00 to $41.00 on April 1, 2009 and from $41.00 to $42.00 on April 1, 2010. Dr. Patrik Nosil won an award in the category of Engineering, Medical Sciences and Natural Sciences for the dissertation he did at Simon Fraser University entitled Divergent Host-Plant Adaptation and the Evolution of Reproductive Isolation. The dissertation is available for interlibrary loan from Library and Archives Canada in microfiche format. Dr. Ian J. MacRae won an award in the category of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. He completed his dissertation, entitled American Incunabula: ‘Grotesque Genesis’ and the Genealogical Genre, at the University of Toronto. The awards were given at the CAGS annual conference in Moncton, New Brunswick, on October 18, 2007. Both Dr. Nosil and Dr. MacRae made interesting and entertaining presentations of their research. June 2007Theses Canada congratulates Julie Lassonde from the University of Victoria and Pravin Pillay from the University of Saskatchewan. Both students are being recognized by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) for their outstanding electronic theses in the Innovative ETD category. Specifically, these works are being lauded by the NDLTD for demonstrating "new dimensions of scholarship" and for having made "significant contributions to the worldwide ETD movement." Ms. Lassonde's thesis is entitled Performing Law and Mr. Pillay's is entitled Samsara Unlimited: Towards an Ecology of Compassion. Mr. Pillay's thesis is also being recognized in the NDLTD's Innovative Learning through ETDs category.
