Digital Resources

Library and Archives Canada is committed to making as much of its collection as possible available online. In this section, you will find links to the material we have digitized. We have several kinds of online material:

  • Online collections are searchable collections of research materials that are available online, such as textual documents, photographs, audio recordings, etc.

  • Online exhibitions are informative and entertaining sites that highlight and provide context for selected Library and Archives Canada materials.

  • Research aids are online copies of informational documents that help you find material in our physical collections.

Recent additions to the Library and Archives Canada website

Government of Canada Web Archive
Library and Archives Canada began to harvest the web domain of the Federal Government of Canada starting in December 2005. As resources permit, this harvesting activity will be undertaken on a semi-annual basis. The website data which is harvested is stored in the Government of Canada Web Archive (GC WA). Client access to the content of the GC WA is provided through searching by keyword, by department name, and by URL. It is also possible to search by specific format type, e.g. .pdf. At the time of its launch in Fall 2007, approximately 100 million digital objects (over 4 terabytes) of archived Federal Government website data was made accessible via the LAC website.

Cabinet Conclusions
This research tool provides access to the Cabinet Conclusions which summarize the discussions that took place at the meetings of the Federal Cabinet. They document decision-making at the highest level of the Canadian government and offer researchers a glimpse into Canadian politics for the years 1944 to 1975. The tool provides a unique look into the policies and processes of Cabinet as it is possible to search on one topic and retrieve results from all years of the Conclusions.
