  • Direct deposit has been used by the Government of Canada since 1991, and it will replace cheques by April 2016.

  • The Receiver General makes direct deposit payments in 32 foreign countries.

  • The Receiver General (RG) for Canada participated with the Bank of Canada in the creation of an informational video on "Cheque Fraud". The video helps retailers identify the security markings on RG cheques and also sensitize them to identity fraud while cashing RG cheques.

  • In fiscal year 2011-2012, the RG issued approximately 302 million federal payments, about 77.3 percent by direct deposit.
