Pension Transformation Initiative: November 2011 No. 7

On November 28, 2011, the pension transformation projects reached a major milestone! Indeed, Release 2.5 of the Government of Canada Pension Modernization Project (GCPMP) was implemented. In Release 2.0, the Penfax commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) replaced the Contributor System and other pension legacy applications. Release 2.5 includes additional capabilities to address requests for Service Buyback as well as leave without pay (LWOP).

Also on November 28, at the end of its 4 year implementation phase, the Centralization of Pension Services Delivery Project (CPSDP) reached its final milestone the centralization of the 12th and last service (LWOP) to the Public Service Pension Centre (Pension Centre). The Pension Centre is now providing all pension services to both active and retired public service pension plan members. A Communiqu, for Heads of Human Resources to announce to their employees that all pension services are now available from the Pension Centre located in Shediac, New Brunswick, will be released.

Next Steps

Now that the Centralization Project has come to an end, the Modernization Project is focusing on its final releases, which will bring the Transformation of Pension Administration Initiatives to a close within a year. Web based self-service for contributors will now be implemented as Release 2.6, in spring 2012. The remaining release, Release 3.0, will include new Penfax components for administering annuitant (retired member) accounts, including accounting functionality, and will be implemented in December 2012.

The Modernization and Centralization project teams would like to express their appreciation, once again, to colleagues and clients for their ongoing support and encouragement throughout the implementation process.
