Public Opinion Research Reports

The Communications Policy of the Government of Canada, as of August 2006, requires departments and agencies to provide written public opinion research (POR) reports to the Library of Parliament and to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) within six months of the completion of fieldwork, to facilitate access to the public and parliamentarians. LAC will post executive summaries of the reports on its Web site as well as contract information.

Electronic Collection

Since 1994, public opinion research reports have been made available in paper format at Library and Archives Canada for the public and at the Library of Parliament for members of Parliament and the Press.

In autumn 2005, Library and Archives Canada agreed to receive, catalogue and post electronic versions of POR reports in its Electronic Collection. The Public Opinion Research Directorate of Public Works and Government Services Canada transferred its inventory of approximately 800 electronic files (received from 1999-2005) to LAC. This inventory represents a fraction of all the reports deposited with the libraries in paper format.

The reports are listed according to the issuing department's name, year, POR project number and individual title. Each catalogued title has a unique URL. To view the final POR reports, go to the Electronic Collection on the LAC Web site.
