Direct deposit for individuals with a Canadian bank account

You may enrol in direct deposit for most payments and benefits you receive from the Government of Canada. If you have moved or switched banks, you can also change your banking information on file.

Information you need to enrol in direct deposit

  • Your name, address and date of birth
  • Your payment type(s) and the associated personal; identifier(s), for example: your social insurance number (SIN) or your file number
  • A void cheque or your bank account information and
  • You may be asked to provide additional information during the registration process to validate your identity

How to enrol in direct deposit

If your payment is not included on this list, you can find contact information for all other federal departments and agencies on the Government of Canada Web site or by calling 1‑800‑O‑Canada (1‑800‑622‑6232). Current federal public servants should consult the Public Service Pay Centre for direct deposit issues related to their pay.

Ask your teller about direct deposit during your next visit. The direct deposit form (HTML and PDF formats) can be downloaded if your bank does not have any on hand.

You can enrol to receive your Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and Employment Insurance payments by direct deposit by visiting your nearest Service Canada office.

By mail

You can enrol by completing and mailing in a single direct deposit enrolment form for one or several of the following Government of Canada payments:

Enrolling is easy, simply go to directdeposit.gc.ca to get all the information you need.

You can also enrol online at the Canada Revenue Agency’s My Account site or by phone at 1-800-959-8281 for the following payments:

You can also sign up by using My Service Canada Account or by phone at 1-800-277-9914 for the following payments:

Interested Canadians may also visit their bank where an agent can help you fill out the necessary forms.

From time to time, Canadians will receive an enrolment form with their benefit cheques.

When filling out the form, provide all the details related to your personal information in Part A

and check off all the payments you receive from the Government of Canada.

For example, if you receive any tax related

payments from the Canada Revenue Agency, such as an Income Tax Refund or GST/HST credit

or benefits from Service Canada, such as Canada Pension Plan

or Old Age Security payments, check off the applicable boxes in Part B.

In order to direct a payment to your bank account, you will need to provide your banking information or attach a voided cheque.

This is a personal cheque of the account you want your direct deposit payments to go into, with the word "VOID" written across the front.

If you don’t have cheques, or the account you choose is not a chequing account,

you can obtain this information by visiting your bank.

You can have your bank stamp the appropriate area in Part C of the enrolment form.

This will ensure that your account number is properly registered for your direct deposit.

Once you’ve reviewed, signed and dated the form in Part D,

mail it to the address indicated on the form itself.
