The goals of this conference sponsored by Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information are to promote and to facilitate the exchange of information between providers and users in the health statistics field and to highlight the importance of trust in the data and the results in terms of their use for policy decisions.

The conference is an opportunity for individuals who provide or use health information, such as those in the health care fields, government, university and other research organizations, to meet to discuss data collection, analysis and dissemination. Current and potential providers and users of health data will benefit from this conference.

Interesting and provocative sessions will focus on subjects including:

  • current uses of health data;
  • innovative methods in health analysis;
  • health issues at the beginning of the 21st century: data availability and gaps;
  • new data collection strategies and techniques;
  • keys to data access and use.

Pre-conference workshops are designed to instruct users in the exploitation of existing health data.

At the end of this conference, participants will be able to:

  • identify the availability and accessibility of Canadian health information;
  • be informed of the most recent results stemming from health data analysis;
  • understand how health policies are derived from data;
  • identify data quality issues associated with health data series (e.g., timeliness, completeness, reliability);
  • appreciate the uses and value of longitudinal data;
  • evaluate the utilization of health data and indicators.

The target audience for the conference is the community of providers and users of Canadian health information. This includes, but is not limited to the following individuals:
