Wholesale trade, March 2009
Wholesale sales in current dollars fell 0.6% to $40.5 billion in March. Declining sales in the building materials and machinery and electronic equipment sectors were important factors contributing to this decrease. In terms of the volume of sales, wholesale sales were down 1.3%.

Cross-border financial flows strengthened in March, as Canadian investors acquired $6.2 billion of foreign securities and non-residents purchased $6.8 billion of Canadian securities.

Consumer prices rose 0.4% in the 12 months to April 2009, down from the 1.2% observed in March. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.3% from March to April.
