Q1. What courses should I take in high school, college, or university to prepare for a career as a regular member with the RCMP?

The RCMP does not recommend one course of study or educational program over another. However, if you have an interest in a specific area of law enforcement, you should attend an information session and ask about specific job qualifications. Please contact the recruiting office nearest you.

Q2. I am a police officer outside Canada and would like to transfer to the RCMP. What is the application procedure?

The RCMP accepts applications from Canadian citizens only. Please see our Basic Requirements page and review Citizenship and Immigration Canada's site for application forms / procedures.

Q3. When is the next information session in my area?

Please contact your Provincial Recruiting Office for session dates and locations.

Q4. What are the chances of being hired as a police officer by the RCMP?

Each year, roughly 10,000 Canadians apply to join the RCMP as regular members. The number of applicants selected depends on contractual obligations and human resource needs across Canada. The RCMP is committed to policies and practices which reflect all laws, regulations, and government commitments including all laws prohibiting discrimination on any grounds as defined by the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

Q5. Where will I get posted after training Do I have a choice?

You will be posted to the area or detachment that has the greatest need for police services. Presently, the greatest need is in Western Canada. All members must be prepared to serve anywhere in Canada, and while cadets are welcome to indicate their preference, they should understand that organizational and human resource requirements take priority.
