The goal of the Values and Ethics Office (VEO) is to ensure that ethical principles are an integral part of all aspects of the RCMP’s service delivery and remain in the forefront of the organizational psyche. In this endeavour, the VEO advises the Commissioner, Senior Executives, policy centres, and all employees on a wide array of issues pertaining to ethics. In addition, the VEO is partnering with business lines to incorporate ethical decision making in operational and administrative functions. As a leader in ethics education, the VEO provides ethics training to the leadership continuum and specialized units, as well as to our external and international partners. The Office works to foster an environment where ethical considerations are routinely embraced and where RCMP Core Values and Commitments are honoured.
RCMP ethical standards are based on six core values: integrity, honesty, professionalism, compassion, respect and accountability. These core values make up the basis for every decision we make and help us determine how we should conduct ourselves on a daily basis. Closely following these values allows employees to make informed and ethical judgements in business dealings and the workplace. It is critical that we make sound decisions as we are accountable for them in the end.
The VEO believes it is essential that the Canadian public and its business partners have a clear understanding of the RCMP’s obligations and standards. In setting out clear obligations, the VEO believes the RCMP will maintain the trust that the Canadian public has placed in it.
