Investigation & Enforcement Support

Laboratory Services

Within Investigation and Enforcement Support are six forensic laboratories (located in Halifax, Ottawa , Winnipeg , Regina , Edmonton and Vancouver ). The laboratories vary in size and specialization in terms of the forensic programs they accommodate. Forensic evidence such as alcohol and drugs, trace evidence, and firearms, are essential components of Criminal Code investigations as the technology becomes more sophisticated and the courts rely more frequently on physical evidence as opposed to witness accounts. In support of the RCMP and Canadian police agencies, Investigation and Enforcement Support Services (crime scene analysis) is expected to provide highly accurate and quality results despite a large volume of work and continuously changing technology.

Each Forensic Program is managed by a Program Manager . The Program Managers are responsible for overseeing the science and technology aspects of one of the above programs, including ensuring the provision of appropriate training and certification to all respective staff members (located in the various laboratories across Canada) and assuring their compliance with pertinent scientific/technical Standard Operating Procedures, methodologies, techniques and processes in the discharge of their responsibilities.
