General Information About the District:

Prince District RCMP is located in the western region of Prince Edward Island and is committed to serving the residents of Prince County and visitors to that region. The District is comprised of two detachments, one in West Prince (Alberton) and one in East Prince (Summerside), with various satellite offices located throughout the area. Currently, Prince District has a staff of approximately forty-two, consisting of the District Commander, Operations NCO, four Corporal Team Leaders, 26 uniformed front line responders/investigators and six Public Service employees. There is also a three-person JFO Drug Unit, comprised of RCMP and Summerside Police Service personnel. The East Prince office includes a Major Crime Unit, a National Sex Offender Registry coordinator and one Traffic Services member. There is also an experienced team of volunteer Auxiliary Constables.

The population of Prince County is approximately 44,500 people. Prince District RCMP is responsible for providing service to all rural communities and residents located in the region. During tourism season, which is one of the Island’s primary industries, the number of people to whom service is provided increases dramatically. In recent years, the number of visitors to the Island has reached as many as 1.2 million annually.

Also included in Prince District is the Aboriginal community of Lennox Island and various Acadian communities. One of the Island’s focal points, the Confederation Bridge, completed in June 1999, allows easy entry for residents and visitors. It is also patrolled by Prince District Members on a regular basis

Queens District

General Information About the District :

Queens District RCMP is responsible for the policing of Queens County, which encompasses approximately 1551 sq kilometers or the center third of PEI and contains a population of approximately 37,989, with an expected increase of 5% each year. The RCMP is not responsible for policing the City of Charlottetown but police Stratford and Cornwall, which are the two fastest growing communities in PEI. Queens District is also responsible for policing two First Nation communities, Scotchfort and Rocky Point, which are made up of individuals from the Abegweit Band. During the summer months, Queen District operates a satellite office in Cavendish. This community and surrounding area remains one of PEI's major tourist attractions with approximately 750,000 visitors each year.
Queens District has 26 regular members and 4 support staff and handles approximately 7,000 calls for service each year. Included in the 26 members are two members assigned Community Policing positions located in Cornwall and Stratford, as well as a two-member Street Unit. In addition to the above-noted resources. A Provincial Police Dog Section, Forensic Identification Unit, Mobile Traffic Unit and Major Crime Unit are also housed in the building. As a result of the wide variety of calls for service and the existence of the specialized units in the building, Queens District is an excellent training location.

General Information About Montague Detachment:

memberMontague Detachment is the headquarters for Kings District which comprises all of Kings County and a portion of Queens County in Eastern Prince Edward Island. The current detachment opened in 1995 and is located in the community of Brudenell on the outskirts of the Town of Montague. We are approximately 45 kilometers from the City of Charlottetown and 25 kilometers from the Wood Islands Ferry to Nova Scotia. The District Commander (Staff Sergeant) and Operations NCO (Sergeant) offices are located in the Montague Detachment building. There are also three District Assistants (Public Servants) located at Montague Detachment.

Montague Detachment members include two Team Leaders (Corporals) and fourteen constables. One constable is attached to a two-member District Street Level Drug Unit. One constable is assigned as a District Court Liaison Officer. We have a municipal contract for three members to police the Town of Montague. Our members liaise regularly with the various community councils and schools within the detachment area and are actively involved with several youth and Crime Prevention Programs. A civilian Youth Outreach Worker has an office located in the detachment and she is a valued resource and partner to the detachment members when dealing with youth issues. Kings County consists of various rivers, waterways and beaches, making it a popular tourist destination during the summer months. The detachment communities host a number of festivals and events throughout the summer, including Montague Days and Northumberland Days.

Traffic Enforcement duties are an important part of the Montague Detachment members’ responsibilities as we strive to reduce fatalities and serious traffic collision related injuries and meet the goals of Road Safety Vision 2010.

General Information About Souris Detachment:


Souris Detachment is a post site of Kings District, with its head office housed in Montague Detachment. The detachment encompasses most of northern Kings County. The area consists of a town (Souris - population 1,300), two villages (Morell & St. Peters) and many rural communities. The Souris detachment also has an extended contract with the Town of Souris. Souris Detachment members include one Team Leader (Corporal), seven constables, including one full time school liaison officer and two District assistants.
