New Canadian Website Features Coloured Gemstones and Hand-made Jewellery by Saskatchewan Goldsmith By Dirk Schmid
For over twenty years Doug Frey has designed and produced quality Canadian jewellery pieces in his studio in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Doug began his career as a goldsmith in the idealistic era of the mid-seventies, showing in galleries across Canada in the 1980's and 90's. He has continued to strive for excellence in design and workmanship. Doug's specialties are coloured gemstones cut in his studio, and quality hand-made jewellery made from silver, gold and platinum. The designs appearing on one series of jewellery are based on the native rock paintings of northern Canada. These unique pieces of wearable art have become quite popular. Doug also produces modern pieces of jewellery with unique contemporary designs. Doug is now offering his jewellery and gemstones through his new Canadian website at www.dfrey.com, which went online in June. The website is currently organized into two categories, gemstones and jewellery. Item pages contain thumbnail images conveniently located next to every item description. The quality of the pictures alone make the site worth visiting. Furthermore, all pages download quickly, and navigation is quick and simple. These features, plus the content make this site a pleasure to visit. Many other websites that offer jewellery are poorly designed and force the visitor to download many large pictures. Doug also plans to expand his photo gallery to include more photographs and archaeological information about the rock paintings found in Saskatchewan and other parts of northern Canada. Overall, this is an excellent jewellery website, one of the best I've seen so far. Only Gem Birds comes closest, but lacks the organization found in Doug's website.
