Interview with Penn Kemp

When did you start publishing?

1977

Why did you start publishing?

For artistic control of poetry, especially sound and concrete poetry.... and then it was too late to stop!

Briefly describe the type of work you publish.

sound and concrete poetry, often in collaboration.

Do you accept unsolicited submissions?

No.

How do you decide what to publish?

Penn Kemp often works in collaboration with schools to create a magazine of student writing, Twelfth Key. Pendas Productions produces Twelfth Key, an occasional periodical of solicited writing.

How many chapbooks have you published? (both number of books & volume of books)

six chapbooks. Limited runs, average run: 30 and counting. We also do unlimited runs, printed to demand. PTD. We print to special occasions and requests.

We produce about the same volume of promotional ephemera like broadsheets, brochures and postcards.

We have produced five CD's of sound poetry, with 4 more in the works. We have produced occasional periodical,Twelfth Key.

Any advice for people thinking of starting a small press?

Don't do it! Who's your sugar daddy? You can't be in it for the money so it must be love.

Additional comments?

Thanks!
