Electronic Publications: What's New?Louise Tousignant During the course of the 2000-2001 fiscal year, the Electronic Collection Web site was improved upon, and a What's New section now allows users to consult a sampling of newly archived publications. Archiving agreements were made with publishers in the commercial sector, including Brent Friedenberg Associates, Canadian Enerdata Ltd. and Decima Publishing Inc. It was also during this period that the Electronic Collection was enriched with 403 Canadiana titles and over 5 000 issues of electronic periodicals. Let's take a closer look at what's new.
Published by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, this weekly periodical is available in pdf format. Not only do we receive the issues regularly, but we also acquired back issues dating from the first available online issue, volume 128, number 6 (April 20, 1999). Remember that this periodical, formerly available in print, was available at a cost. As of November 2, 1999, Public Works and Government Services Canada has dropped paid subscriptions and, for a limited time, this title is available in print on demand. We would like to point out that this periodical will be especially useful to those who want to find out more about Canadian-issued patents, including Canadian applications available to the public (collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/201/301/patent_office_record-ef/index.html).
This case study, published by Status of Women Canada and available in pdf format, allows us to learn more about the following: the kinds of businesses dealt with by call centres in three provinces of Canada, New Brunswick (Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton), Manitoba (Winnipeg) and Ontario (Toronto); the composition of the work force of the businesses operating in this new service economy; and the daily work realities of off-site service provision and telemarketing (collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/200/301/swc-cfc/gender_on-e/001010-0662281586-e.pdf).
Also available in pdf format, this periodical, published by Brent Friedenberg Associates, is part of a recently archived series of periodicals on natural gas. Those who are interested in the natural gas market, its price trends and in companies involved in this sector of economic activity should bookmark this one (collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/201/300/cdn_natural_gas_focus/index.html).
The printed version of this periodical ceased to exist after volume 11, number 1 (November 2000). This title is currently available electronically only, in pdf format, and is an indispensable periodical for anyone interested in law libraries (collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/201/300/verbatim/index.html). We invite you to make regular visits to the What's New section of the Electronic Collection to learn about other new acquisitions, which are highlighted on a monthly basis. The Electronic Collection is continually looking to expand in order to give its users direct access to electronic publications that are available on the market.
