On November 15, 2001, the National Library of Canada proudly celebrated the 10th anniversary of its evening of readings by the winners of the Governor General’s Literary Awards. The public was invited to join Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, and His Excellency John Ralston Saul in the celebration of the accomplishments of Canada’s best writers, illustrators, translators and their publishers as this year’s award-winners read from their winning books.
Readers from around the country and the world enjoyed the event by accessing the Library’s Web site at www.nlc-bnc.ca/1/3/index-e.html for a simultaneous audiocast.
Presented by The Gale Group and in cooperation with the Canada Council for the Arts, this year’s readings were once again the highlight of the Library’s fall cultural calendar.
The National Library, whose mandate it is to collect, protect and promote Canada’s published heritage, plays a key role in connecting Canadian writers, readers and publishers. At no moment is this clearer than during this annual reading.
