National HIV/AIDS Grants and Contributions Funds

The HIV/AIDS Policy, Coordination and Programs Division, Public Health Agency of Canada, administers the following five funds under the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada:

  • National HIV/AIDS Voluntary Sector Response Fund;
  • Specific Populations HIV/AIDS Initiatives Fund;
  • National HIV/AIDS Information and Knowledge Exchange Fund;
  • National HIV/AIDS Demonstration Fund; and
  • Non-Reserve First Nations, Inuit and Métis Communities HIV/AIDS Project Fund.

The combined five funds will contribute to the achievement of the goals of the Federal Initiative by:

  • Supporting a strong national voluntary sector response that will play a coordinating and leadership role in the response to HIV/AIDS;
  • Supporting the engagement and direct, meaningful involvement of people living with, and at risk of, HIV/AIDS;
  • Encouraging strategic collaboration and partnerships to address the risk factors of the disease and to achieve integrative approaches to disease prevention across sectors;
  • Enhancing the capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities to respond effectively to the epidemic;
  • Gathering and exchanging HIV/AIDS information and knowledge and supporting the uptake and utilization of knowledge;
  • Enabling the development of effective, informed, and innovative policies and program interventions that are relevant nationally; and
  • Enhancing a broader response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its underlying causes.

Regional Funding opportunities

The Agency's regional offices are responsible for administering the AIDS Community Action Program (ACAP), which supports community-based organizations in delivering HIV/AIDS prevention education, creating supportive environments for those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS, and increasing the capacity of people living with HIV/AIDS to manage their condition (health promotion).
