Family violence1 affects individuals and their families, as well as communities and workplaces. Did you know, for example, that intimate partner violence against women results in lost earnings and tax revenue estimated at $34.2 million per year? Apart from workplace costs related to absenteeism, further costs result from less productivity, more errors and accidents, and negative effects on co-workers.

This issue features current Canadian resources and initiatives related to family violence in the workplace. This includes actions between intimate partners that range from harassing phone calls to stalking to homicide - all occuring within the context of the workplace.
