LCDC Launches Public Health Site on the World Wide Web: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpb/lcdc

On October 24, 1996, the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control (LCDC) expanded its capacity to provide public health information to its clients with the official launch of the LCDC World Wide Web site. It is part of Health Canada's larger Web site, the Canadian Health Network.

The LCDC site contains an organized collection of disease surveillance documents including publications, disease prevention guidelines, travel health advisories and facts and figures on various disease conditions. Information on LCDC programs, projects and events, and links to other sites and partners are presented in an easily navigable format.

All material on the Web site is available in both English and French; there are links on every page to the other language. There are also plenty of "hot links" to other national and international sites.

Naturally, LCDC periodicals are included in the publications that are now available electronically in addition to their hardcopy versions: Chronic Diseases in Canada, Canada Communicable Disease Report, CHIRPP News, Farm Family Health, Measles Update and AIDS in Canada.
