Welcome to the NEB's TransCanada Alberta System Web Page
(also known as NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd.)
Update - 21 April 2009 TransCanada is hosting several open houses to share information about their recent application to the National Energy Board (NEB), to transfer TransCanada Pipelines Limited's Alberta System, also known as NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL), to federal jurisdiction. TransCanada representatives will be on hand to discuss the jurisdictional change, to answer questions and to gather input. NEB staff will also be attending some of these open houses. |
Update - 15 April 2009 The National Energy Board issued today a certificate of public convenience [Filing A21539] under section 52 of the National Energy Board Act after having been granted approval by Governor in Council (GIC). This order also recognizes that the TransCanada Alberta System should be regulated under federal jurisdiction. Regulation of the TransCanada Alberta System will become effective on 29 April 2009. |
On 26 February 2009, the National Energy Board (NEB) announced that it had approved an application filed by TransCanada PipeLines Limited for recognition that its Alberta pipeline system is properly under federal jurisdiction.
In addition, the NEB decided to issue, subject to Governor in Council approval, a certificate for its operation under the National Energy Board Act. The decision was made on the basis that the Alberta System is part of an extensive pipeline system already under federal jurisdiction.
Previously, the Alberta System was regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission in conjunction with the Energy Resources Conservation Board.
The decision approving the jurisdictional change was made following a November 2008 hearing held in Calgary, Alberta.
The TransCanada Alberta System is an existing natural gas pipeline system comprised of approximately 23,500 km of pipeline and associated facilities located within Alberta. Owned and operated by NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd., this system is a subsidiary of TransCanada Pipeline Limited (TransCanada).
