CCA Cultural Policy Workshop:

The Politics of Arts and the Art of Politics

The Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA) is bringing its Cultural Policy Workshop to you!  In coordination with local arts groups from around Canada, the Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA) will host workshops, available in both official languages, which will inform participants about how public policy shapes the nature of arts, culture, and heritage in Canada. We hope to show you the best ways of making an impact on these policies.

The Politics of Arts and the Art of Politics is a half-day workshop designed for a small group of 20-40 participants. The workshops are open to all Canadians interested in arts and culture: from all disciplines and practices within the sector itself, artists and creators, municipal and provincial officials, educators and students, arts activists, volunteers, arts organization Board members and the business community.

Participants will leave the workshop with:

  • A brief background of federal cultural policy and the recent developments to our rich history

  • An overview of current practices in the workings of government and policy development

  • A toolkit for advocating for the arts

  • A practical case study exercise

Mark your calendars now to participate in the discussion. Please tell your friends and colleagues about these workshops and contact the CCA if your community is interested in hosting one of our Cultural Policy workshops! Hosting a workshop for communities around the country is the best guarantee that the CCA can truly inform, and be informed by Canadians.

Local partners are crucial to the success of the CCA Cultural Policy Workshop because they provide the CCA with advice, logistics support and access to local networks of artists, creators and arts administrators and educators. We are very grateful to our many partners for their significant contribution to the Politics of Art and the Art of Politics workshops.

To register or to bring the workshops closer to you, please contact Megan Forsythe at the Canadian Conference of Arts, megan.forsythe@ccarts.ca or 613-238-3561 x 18.
