Immigration Records

The arrival of Chinese immigrants leading to the development of a permanent residential community began in 1858. For more information on the history of Chinese immigration and settlement in Canada, see History and Pioneers.

Immigration records are a very rich source of information on early Chinese settlers in Canada. A variety of records are available, including Records of the Chief Controller of Chinese Immigration. Information on Chinese immigrants to Canada is also found in ship Passenger Lists and Chinese Immigration Case Files.
