In the craziness of kittidom and kids still home from school I have gotten a few things done that could be considered productive…

Okay, past rant and concerns about penname issues aside (I’ve decided after all of the wonderful advice to say screw it and continue to use Moondancer Drake for everything until I do the YA/MG stuff) I am moving on to a new and most over due task. Completing my Nanowrimo manuscript from last year.

GCLS report up!

Golden Crown
I finally pulled myself away from the kittens and writing to finish the complete GCLS con report I promised everyone. Keep in mind this is my experience, and what I remember two week prior. I met so many more wonderful poeple then were mentioned here, but names have never been my strong suit. :)

Even with sweet and demanding kittens to play with who have already got the “here let me climb on your laptop and get your attention” down to an art, I got a good bit done on Bloodstained Innocence. Can you imagine batting four sets of paw off the keys? Crazy making!

Soon things will be better

With all the stupid crap going on in the news and online I find myself grateful to have these bundle of furs to play with and love to get me through the frustrations. Once again I spent a day butting heads with a friend who as sweet as he is fails to have a clue when it comes to race issues. I know as a white male his experiences are different, but c'mon, is it really to hard to step out of the box that is your existence and try to empathize with someone else’s world?

I am almost done with the first round of changes on Bloodstained Innocence when the Goddess in all her wisdom and good humor decided to drop a surprise in my lap.

Journey to GCLS Con, part 1

  • Jul. 29th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Golden Crown

I’m going to do today’s traveling post as I go from my home to Phoenix for GCLS con in a journaling fashion, making notes as I go through my day.

I know the bicycling series I was writing for Green Monday was preempted by the Green It carnival last week, but with me heading to GCLS con tomorrow, I felt the need to talk about the place I will be staying while I’m in Phoenix. Be patient, there is a link between all of this and the purpose of green Monday, I swear.

Marketing on a Budget

With my first anthology out (Chilling Tales) and a novel due this fall (Ancestral Magic) I’ve been giving a great deal of thought to the idea of marketing. Being with a small publisher, a lot of the promotion lands on my shoulders, and not having a ton of extra cash to spare, I have to be frugal with the marketing tools I use. Some of these I have been working on for quite some time, whole others are new tools since the anthologies release or resources geared to the novel as its date of availability get closer. Whereas any artist can use these tool to promote themselves, as a writer I will mostly be focusing on that aspect.

The internet itself is a great tool to give your work widespread attention. There are no gas or plane fares to dig into your pocket book, you simply have the world at your fingertips. What you do with this connection is up to you. Here are some suggestions.

Also, as part of this special event there are some other authors doing workshop on their blogs worth checking out.

Sandra Barret is doing “Worldbuilding with a Wiki” Tuesday, July 29, 2008 ([info]sbarret). Jove Belle is doing a not to miss workshop on “Brainstorming” Thursday, July 31, 2008, And the magnificent Larkin Rose is doing a piece called “Hitting the Wall” on the subject of Writer's Block Saturday, Aug 2, 2008
