First off, this journal is PUBLIC - you are free to friend/de-friend/comment (sanely, please) at will. 

My name is FX (it's also foxs_alterego, Special-FX, Teawise, and Cha Trimble, depending where and when you find me and, wow, I *really* need to consolidate). I'm 23, live in Texas, and work as a graphic designer. I am a feminist, I'm queer, I want to save the world.

I also (and finally we get to the point) have a lifelong addiction commitment to geekery - I love culture (which breaks down to history, philosophy, the -ologies, reading, writing, books, comic books, manga, anime, video games, movies, TV, sci-fi, fantasy... you get the idea) - and I love, Love, LOVE fandom (even the wanky bits) in all it's myriad manifestations. I don't *participate* much, mind you - it's a, uh, quiet love.

This journal is intended to be an expression of that - reviews, doodling, random thoughts, etc - a general dumping ground of anything and everything that catches my interest.

Next, a confession - I'm horrible at the whole 'updating' thing (better at it lately, though!). This is partially because [dramatic pose] I can only shout into the void for so long, but mostly because I get distracted and forget >.<. A lack of recent updates does NOT mean that I'm away from Livejournal, however - I have a large number of places I lurk hang out and my memories are ever growing. I'm at my parent's house for the weekend - my sister moved to college on Saturday and all hands were needed - and I decided to take the opportunity and snap photos of the new fillies for some friends (who have been very patient). And, hey, why not share them here too?

Hey, does anyone know of an excruciatingly detailed and exhaustive wiki/walkthrough/guide/thing to Kingdom Hearts (or a just a good one. I can work with that)? I need to plot out a nascent fic and am saving replaying the games whilst taking obsessive notes as a *last* resort.

I have bought a doll the illness has *nothing* to do with it, honest. A ball-jointed doll, the Apollo mold by Bobobie. He won't be here until mid-August-ish, but I've got clothes and a wig and eyes that will be here before that. His name's Daniel, he has curly brown hair, pale eyes, and freckles. He likes poetry. There will be pictures, you've been warned.

I've turned into a doll person. They say you can't buy just one, my brother already has *two,* someone, please, send help.

Am sicker then I have been in years and years and *years* - was hit last *Tuesday* (like a goddamn fish to the head, delivered by a ninja in the night) with a full bout of influenza, am still not well enough to make it to the goddamn mailbox and back. Am lucky am a freelancer, am lucky I blocked off the week for a family visit. I hear they're having a very good time. Have spent my time watching far, far too much teevee, much of it Disney (Darkwing Duck!), which has lead to shenanigans. More on that later.

In the meantime, it is 5:30 am! I can not sleep! It's time for that A-Kon report!

Folks, Iowa is flooding. So's Michigan. And the Federal Government is doing nothing.

I lived my last year of high school and all my years at college in Iowa. Many of my friends still live there, or have family who do. One of my best friends lives in Cedar Rapids and just called to tell me she's had to leave her apartment - it sits on a floodplain and is going under if the river crests again. She's back with her parents but still, if the flooding had been a bit worse earlier in the week, she would have lost most of her things. And there would have been no one official to help her.

As an added bonus, 90% of my extended family lives in or around Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was was up there the week before A-kon, even.

Everyone I know is doing okay, so far, but I'm stuck in fucking Texas and there's nothing I can do except write my Congresspeople and ask them for a Federal response. Please, if you're in the US, consider doing the same.

I'll do a proper ramble Monday-ish soon, after the con's over, but. In the meantime, I'm really, *really* loving this con. It's not too big (compared to Comic-Con, anyway, which was the last one I attended), the programming's fun, the AA is *amazing* and. The people.

So much cosplay, and diversity, and genderbending, and random silliness, and intense conversations in the corner about the merits of videogames as a literacy aid in elementary school classrooms. I find myself with an intense amount of affection for the whole lot of them.

This weekend, I:

* Saw Iron Man. HELL YEAH. It made me forget that I *really* don't like Tony Stark. The dick.

* Dragged my brother to the closest comic shop (a 30 minute drive) for Free Comic Book Day. Got myself some free comics (although not Tiny Titans, which was the one I really wanted) as well as:

- Young Avengers (hardcover trade)
- Blue Beetle #26 (all Spanish issue!)
- Runaways #29
- Teen Titans Year One #'s 1-4

It has been so *long* since I was last in a comic shop (I do my buying on the 'net these days), I've really missed it.

* Watched the latest two Doctor Who episodes (S4, 4 & 5), which were fun but not awesome. And UNIT was made of total fail, which makes me sad.

* Watched the last five episodes of Torchwood S2. Fragments was *amazing* and managed to make most of season one make sense (which should have been impossible) and it's to bad they then followed it up with Exit Wounds. WTF, season finale.


I want to do pimp posts for Young Avengers and Blue Beetle (for all five of you, yes), 'cause these titles are SO TOTALLY AWESOME and don't get the love they deserve (Blue Beetle especially). But I have little faith in my abilities in channeling such awesome, so. We'll see.

I've been messing around with my icons again and have made way more then I can use in the process. So! Icons for everybody!
