1890 -- Studying art in San Francisco.
1893 -- Returns to Victoria. Teaches children's art classes.
1898 -- First trip to Ucluelet (Indian Reserve, west side of Vancouver Island).
1899 -- Studying art in London, England.
1903 -- (to 1904) Emily in sanatorium in England.
1904 -- Returns to Victoria. Second visit to Ucluelet.
1905 -- Cartoonist for The Week. Teaching in Victoria.
1907 -- Teaching over 70 pupils in Vancouver. Visit to Alaska, calling at Alert Bay.
1910 -- Studying in France.
1911 -- Returns to Vancouver.
1912 -- Six-week trip to Indian villages.
1913 -- Return to Victoria: Hill House (House of All Sorts) established.
1918 -- Cartoonist for Western Women's Weekly.
1919 -- Deaths of two older sisters, Clara and Edith.
1920 -- Emily resumes annual summer travels.

1927 -- Travels to eastern Canada and meets Group of Seven.
1933 -- Sketching trip to British Columbia interior. Purchase of the 'Elephant' (trailer). Final trip to eastern Canada.
1934 -- Summer school course in short story writing.
1936 -- Sale of Hill House, move to Beckley Street. Death of Lizzie.
1937 -- First heart attack. Very successful solo exhibition at Art Gallery of Ontario.
1938 -- Very successful solo exhibition at Vancouver Art Gallery.
1939 -- Emily's second heart attack.
1940 -- Move from Beckley Street to share Alice's house. Major stroke. Broadcast of Klee Wyck stories on CBC Radio.
1941 -- Publication of Klee Wyck.
1942 -- Last sketching trip: serious heart attack. Publication of The Book of Small.
1943 -- Solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle.
1944 -- Publication of The House of All Sorts.
1945 -- Emily's fatal heart attack, March 2.
1946 -- Publication of Growing Pains.
1953 -- Publication of Pause and The Heart of a Peacock.
