Paradise River
The year before Cartwright moved from Cape St. Charles to Cartwright, he sent
a ship to winter in Sandwich Bay. The men were to catch fur and, in the spring, prepare for the
salmon fishery. Cartwright's journal dated June 19, 1775, states, "At daylight I sent people
on shore to build a wharf on a point which I named Paradise."
