St. Lewis

A map designer of 1502 - 1503 showed ten names on the Labrador coast and among them is found 'Ilha de Frey Luis', probably so named by Miguel Corte Real as he searched the Labrador coast for his brother Gasper who was lost in 1501. St. Lewis has a long history of habitation. As early as 1772 there were three men living there.
