Village Of Hyde

Mr. George Audley Edward Hyde came to Canada in 1887 with dreams of creating an aristocratic English estate in the Qu’Appelle Valley.  He chose a site not far from what is now the #47 highway on the north side of the river and called it the Village of Hyde.

He built a house and other farm buildings, and east of his home, he erected a small village.

The small village consisted of a hotel, store, post office, livery barn, blacksmiths shop, church, courthouse, icehouse and a wash house.  A policeman was stationed in the village to keep order in the community.  Mr. Hyde was also a Justice of the Peace and presided over cases in the community.  Eventually the majority of residents in Hyde moved away and the buildings were bought, moved, destroyed, or left to ruin.
