The Bald Eagle
The Bald Eagle is the best known bird of prey in the area. This species is definitely the largest, with individual eagles' wingspans reaching up to eight feet as adults, their dominant size illustrating their power. They are easily spotted, with their crisp white heads and tails and striking black bodies. After facing near-extinction, they are only now starting to grow in numbers once again. Similar to the Osprey, the Bald Eagle usually feeds on fish; however, they are more scavenger-like, and the fish they do eat are usually already dead or dying. Their call is usually loud and clear, and is a mixture of harsh, creaky, crackles, and of "kleeks" and "kiks". They can be found along coasts, rivers, and near large lakes.
