Woodland Caribou
Status
Woodland Caribou in Alberta are designated as
threatened under the Alberta Wildlife Act. In 1991, Woodland Caribou were put on the
Red List of at risk species in the province. In 1996, the species was moved to the
Blue List of species that may be at risk in Alberta. No distinction is made at the provincial level in terms of status of different
ecotypes. The Natural Heritage Element Rarity Rank for the mountain and foothills populations of the Woodland Caribou in Alberta is S2.
