Tourism

This is another important and growing sector of the economy. Eco-tourism and adventure tours on the Arctic have become very popular in recent years. Dog team expeditions, naturalist lodges, and floe edge tours are attracting tourists from around the world. Cruise ships have been operating in the Arctic for a number of years offering cruises through the Northwest Passage as well as to various Baffin and Ellesmere Island locations. Big game hunting for polar bear, musk ox and barren-ground caribou is another tourist service which makes good use of traditional Inuit skills. Most communities have outfitting and guiding services which offer both land and sea excursions in the vicinity.
