Wage Economy

In addition to its role in the subsistence economy, renewable resource harvesting contributes to the wage economy. Musk ox and caribou are hunted, processed and sold commercially to consumers across the North. There is also a commercial fishery for Arctic char in Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay. Processing plants in these communities prepare the fish for sale in the North and elsewhere.
