Irma,
a 60ish great Grandmother, has been making blankets and quilts for
her family for some time. Many members of Irma's extended Metis family
are fine quilters with a proud tradition, and she exchanges material
and techniques with her sisters and aunts.
From
Manitoba and residing in Winnipeg, Irma finds a great pride in developing
new types of designs. This is particularly evedent in her approach
to the Manitoba Crocus.
After
entering in to early retirement, she originally took up quilting as
a hobby. Later working with the Northern Star, she began to develop
her skills.

The
Prairie Crocus captures the essence of spring; A sign from He
who watches over all things that the pattern of life continues.

Healing Blanket
This creation was inspired by the need to express strength through
spirituality at times of healing. The blue diamonds represent
the North Doorway, the time of wisdom after learning well enough
to survive to old age.

Growth Blanket
The
color green in this blanket represents Mother, the Earth, and
the gifts she gives to us such as food, shelter, protection, nurturing,
re-growth, renewal and all the things necessary to the continuation
of our lives. The peach colors indicate the peace and tranquility
of this life cycle.

of Wisdom
Irma's
choice of light blue represents the gifts of the spirit, (such
as Father Sky) those things outside ourselves that we seek to
reach, but cannot touch. This is a teaching color or a wish to
learn.
