G e n e r a l b. 1950,
Oshweken, Ontario Following a fruitful career as a painter in the early 1970s, David General turned exclusively to sculpture after meeting Bill Reid, and now expressly works in materials such as bronze and marble. General creates abstract renderings of organic forms with distinctive and sometimes intricate titles. He is renowned for his masks, the creation of which he restricts to one per year. Largely self-taught as an artist, General attended Wilfred Laurier University and Hamilton Teacher's College, and co-founded the Society of Canadian Artists of Native Ancestry (SCANA). He has served on numerous advisory boards and is a trustee of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
