The First Drugstore in Bonnyville
by John Sawchuk

Drugstore of S.M. Ross
Drug Store of S.M. Ross
Dr. Sabourin opened a drugstore in Bonnyville in 1929 or 1930. This was the first drugstore in town. In 1933 Dr. Sabourin sold his business to Mr. Sid Ross. In June 1941 Mr. Ross sold his drugstore to Mr. Sloane who operated a chain of drugstores in Edmonton. Mr. Sloane hired Mr. Osyp Ferbey to operate the drugstore in Bonnyville. When Mr. Sloane died Mrs. Sloane sold the drugstore to Mr. Ferbey in March 1948. The drugstore was operated in the building on the main street which was rented from Miss Bertha Ouimet. Mr. Ferbey built a new building and opened his new drugstore in November 1961. This was the only drugstore between St. Paul and Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan which served a very large territory.
