From left to right, Peter Cooper, President; David D. Field; Chandler White, Secretary; Marshall O. Roberts; Samuel F.B. Morse, Vice President; D. Huntington; Moses Taylor, Treasurer; Cyrus W. Field; and Wilson G. Hunt. A meeting at the home of Cyrus Field in New York launched the New York, Newfoundland, and London Telegraph Company on May 8, 1854. Mr. Field supplied the energy and vision but most of the money and ships and all of the cable came from England.
